M-PESA Foundation Conducts Ground Inspection for Proposed Regional ICT Hub at Maseno University
Maseno University had the privilege of hosting a high-level delegation from the M-PESA Foundation for a ground inspection exercise ahead of the proposed construction of a state-of-the-art Regional ICT Hub. The visit marked a major step toward the realization of a transformative digital infrastructure project that is expected to benefit not only the university community but also the wider region.
The inspection was led by two engineers from the M-PESA Foundation: Eng. Zacharie Hamtons, a Senior Engineer, and Eng. Amol Duncan, the Project Manager. They were accompanied and guided on-site by Maseno University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Julius O. Nyabundi, and senior university staff from various departments including estates, ICT, and planning.
During the visit, the engineers conducted a thorough assessment of the proposed construction site, reviewed preliminary architectural plans, and held discussions with the university’s technical team to align on project requirements, timelines, and deliverables. The engagement reflected a shared vision of using technology to drive education, innovation, and socio-economic development in Kenya.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nyabundi expressed the University’s appreciation for the partnership, emphasizing its importance in strengthening Maseno’s position as a center of excellence in ICT and digital transformation. He noted that the upcoming ICT Hub will provide students, researchers, and innovators with a conducive environment for technological advancement and creative problem-solving.
The proposed Regional ICT Hub, once completed, will house modern facilities including training labs, digital learning spaces, co-working offices for startups, and high-speed internet infrastructure. This initiative is part of M-PESA Foundation’s broader strategy to invest in impactful educational projects that prepare young people for the digital economy.
The University looks forward to the next phases of the project and remains committed to ensuring its successful implementation.
